Caribbean islands rattled by minor earthquake

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 rattled three Caribbean islands on Sunday night, but there were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.

The Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) said that the quake occurred at 9.25 pm (local time) at a depth of 10 kilometres.

It said the quake was located at Latitude: 15.04N, Longitude: 60.47W and was felt 83 km northeast of Fort-de-France, Martinique, 106 km east south east of Roseau, Dominica and 125 km north east of Castries, St Lucia.

In recent weeks several Caribbean countries have experienced earthquakes of various magnitudes and the SRC has warned the region to be prepared for a major quake.
